New Projects

Thursday, March 27th, 2008

I have two new projects I have been working on lately.  They are both in the design stage and so far neither is a go, but they are both for past good customers so I think they will both happen.  I will keep you all posted on the progress and I promise to provide pictures.  The first is a bedroom set.  A sleigh bed and two end tables.  I have the drawings pretty much finalized.  I use two software titles for my drawings.  The first is TurboCad.  I really like this software.  It is quite powerful and reasonably priced.  I also use SketchUp from Google.  This is a great piece of software especially since it’s free.  You can find video tutorials everywhere on the net.  I’ll have a picture of the design next time.

Anyway, The other project is for a bench for an entryway in Manhattan.  I’ve done a few projects for this customer (pictures soon) and he is a great guy to work for.  The bench is being designed by an interior designer.  Again, I’ve done other projects with her and she is also great to work with.  I’ll keep you posted on the progress of these projects as things happen.

I also got a call from Chicago the other day.  An inquiry for a rocking chair.  I haven’t gotten much done on that yet so I’ve got to get going on that.

That’s it for now.  As I learn how to do things, I’ll get more involved with things in this blog.  Hope you stick with me.

an introduction

Monday, March 24th, 2008

Hi.  Welcome to the first posting of my blog.  In here I will be writing notes on the projects we are currently working on, giving info on past projects such as the thought process of the design and some of the problems we had and how we solved them and I hope to be producing some instructional videos on various topics.  I also plan to show you some of the equipment in my shop and say what I do and don’t like about it.  Hopefully this will help you decide what equipment you buy.  Feel free to post comments and offer suggestions.  Also, hit me with your own woodworking questions.  I’d love to help you overcome your own problems and roadblocks.   Check out my website at www.brooksidewoodworking.com

Ok, that’s all for now because I have to get to the shop.  My next posting will be about the project I am starting.  It’s still in the design phase but that part is almost done.  Check back soon.

Thanks.
